Self Acceptance / Self Control

Self “control” and discipline get a lot of street cred.

Powerful for sure.

But what happens when value self “acceptance?”

It seems without self acceptance, we don’t accept our own “self.” When we are in our own company, we cannot relax with it. So, through not accepting, we turn against our “self.”

Then it gets wild – we talk down to it, we sabotage it with distraction and negative internal dialogue. We compare it to others, we limit it.

So, from this rocky platform, of course we need to employ a little more self control to deal with the increasing level of distraction… We need to keep our “self” in line.

Self acceptance allows us to modify the internal dialogue. It allows us to relax some of the self-imposed ceilings. We get to relax with (and into) our “self.”

This of course frees up some resources. Some energy. It creates resilience.

What does a practice of discipline look like on top of a practice of self-acceptance and self-love?
