The other day I met Wayne, who can juggle 5 balls, in multiple patterns, with ease.
He’s an unassuming, relaxed chap, wearing some tennis shoes and an old t-shirt. About 50 or so. He’s focused, but smiles while he creates his art.
When we see Wayne do this out of the blue, or maybe a musician play something that moves us, we sort of stop, dumbfounded, in wonder.
It’s similar when we see a world class athlete, or artist do their craft.
“Wow, how did they do that?”
We tend to throw out this “search for reason.” But usually, deep down it’s not really the “how” that we are blown away by. In fact, if they broke down the actual act and gave us some instructions, it wouldn’t fully make sense and we’d likely get bored – we don’t understand their context.
The execution is beyond our logic.
Deep down, we are recognising their journey.
There’s an instant unspoken understanding of the dedication, consistency and persistence that this person has put behind this journey.
It is not just the beauty of the act itself, but the fact that they have showed up each day and walked this path for the last ten or twenty years.
And sometimes, part of us wonders too… “What would it look like if I too followed the thing that I love, like this person here is…?”
