“Don’t have $100 shoes and a 10 cent squat.” – Louie Simmons
One of the great strength coaches of all time, Louie Simmons, is known not just for the results that he has helped produce with a lot of athletes, but also for his candour.
The lesson of course, is that we tend to move away from the tension, and towards anything else, in particular if it costs money.
In strength training, the tension is doing the work – the technique, the training, the mobility work.
In our business, it’s typically the emotional labour – the outreach the networking, the sales.
Its easier to buy expensive shoes and think it’ll help your squat.
It’s easy to go to longer coffee meetings, buy new business cards, spend a little longer on your logo, and think it’ll help your business.
The tension is the emotional hard part, and that’s usually where the results lie.
