When we watch weather patterns, we can see high pressure systems move East off of the Australian coast out into the Pacific.
At the same time, we can see low pressure systems often moving up from the Deep South.
Each system influences the others. The isobars warp and bend around as the pressure gradients push and pull with each other.
Of course, the charts are simply a representation.
But in this same way, we too are influenced by the pressure and culture around us. The media, the news, the social media, the collective conversation all contribute to our thoughts, our ideas and of course our work.
At the same time though, we can still make an effort to create.
To create something that comes from us.
Something that is true to our story.
Some questions that we can ask:
- What ideas have we actually tested and found to be effective?
- Can we create pillar work that goes deep into concepts and ideas that mean something to us in particular?
- Is the language that we choose to use meaningful to us? Or, are we picking up trending words, slogans or ideas? Language, after all, creates worlds.
- Can we integrate small stories or anecdotes into our work that arise from our own travels?
- What’s a personal or business challenge that we are facing or have overcome?
It’s easy to “lift and repurpose.”
It’s simple to “forward” the article.
It’s a breeze to copy and paste the idea.
It’s a little harder at first to create some space from our inputs and find the words that ring true to who we really are.
