Ideas to Improve Your Writing.

26 ideas, in fact.

For business owners, an ability to tell stories and express a point of view matters.

And, while there may be a big push to video and audio formats, for many people there will still be a lot of value in developing their writing skillset (content, internal/external communication).

I recognise that this is a bit rich coming from someone who isn’t a “writer” by profession, but these points have been really helpful for me personally in the last 5 years.

  1. Start a daily blog
  2. Research basic story structure
  3. Write longer, thoughtful captions
  4. Follow writers, surround yourself with creative people.
  5. Consider yourself a “writer” or speaker.
  6. Understand tempo and sentence lengths
  7. Use simple language that matches your audience
  8. Start a podcast
  9. Read frequently
  10. Tell stories
  11. Find “hero’s” and study their work
  12. Write content or copy even if you don’t feel like it.
  13. Learn to write contextually for different platforms
  14. Create long form content
  15. Each sentence has a purpose, each word has a purpose
  16. Expect half of your stuff to be below average
  17. Learn to see the resistance
  18. Try new things.
  19. Think about tone
  20. Commit to volume before quality
