There’s an amazing women’s only gym here in Newcastle.
Not only is it a gym, of course, but it’s home to a thriving community of women who are connected through a love of strength and a passion for getting the most out of life.
Now the question is, when we think of the woman who founded the business, what’s her title?
Is she a trainer?
Is she a coach?
What about content creator, marketer or storyteller?
Maybe she’s in sales?
Actually, I bet she’s in maintenance a fair bit too.
While we have particular strengths, or innate skills, they often don’t fit into one title.
So if the title they’ve given you helps you do great work, then perfect, keep it. But if you’re bursting at the seams, and the word isn’t a fit, then why not change, or drop it altogether?
Words and language create our world, and it’s great if we can use this fact productively rather than with limitation.
It makes sense to be flexible with the words we identify with the most.
