We can learn incredible amounts from a friend, mentor or coach in a specific field.
When we find a good coach, they are living their ethos. They are living through the systems that they believe in.
When we turn up to a class, or work with a business coach, they of course provide us with instructions for the material at hand, the workout, or the business that we are looking to develop.
There are a couple of levels here:
-
What they are telling us, or what they are saying. This is important as it can help us today. It can help us in the moment.
-
What they are doing. Are they walking the walk? If so, what is the walk? What is it they are actually doing behind the scenes to get their results.
The goal here isn’t to second guess the initial information, but to get deeper insights into the other pillars that help in the success of that one area.
Watch (or ask) how they are setting the bigger picture up.
What did they do when they were at your level? How did they move beyond?
What are their thought patterns that helped them.
Of course, we are all different, but as one of my mentors once said, success leaves clues.
Sometimes, these clues might be in what they are doing, more than what they are saying.
