To be in meditation is to be at peace and in connection with the entire universe.
When we are considering, thinking, introspecting, we are not in meditation.
We might be sitting there, but still the mind is divided.
So, it turns out that often we can use movement, training, dynamic meditation, walking, gardening, or other cathartic activity to reduce the usual overload of inputs into the mind, prior to meditation and literally “burn off” a bunch of repressed or contained energy.
To meditate straight after you have been sitting at the desk and you log off of the computer or social media is difficult.
The imprint on the mind is stil strong.
So, what can we do?
-
Continually work towards a more meditative state – reduce the number of additional inputs that are causing a divide in the mind. Watching the news all the time, too much social media, gossip, shopping malls, advertisements.. As we reduce our inputs, the practice of meditation becomes a little more direct over time.
-
Add a buffer – use exercise, movement, dynamic meditation, walking or other activities prior to pausing to help centre a little bit before you sit.
