When we come to a new class, start a new program, or even say Yes to something outside of our realm of what’s ordinary, we notice it.
It might be hesitation, a sudden feeling of tiredness, a deep desire to do more and more “research” or reading, to get more information, or a running a playbook in our mind of all the worst possible outcomes…
Whatever that feels like, it’s a human thing.
We all share it.
Everyone.
Deeper down, it’s fear. A fear of doing something we aren’t good at and we don’t know how it’ll play out.
A fear of being in new territory, where we might get exposed.
A fear of showing our true selves. A fear of being put on the spot, of having to be creative.
When the activity is known or enjoyed, the creative mind rests while we leverage a known pattern.
New is scary, there’s no pattern.
So the questions then (assuming we want to do these new things at some stage):
a) Can we notice what types of conditions bring this on for us (done after-the-fact), so that we can see them coming and continue anyway.
b) Can we create accountability. A specific date or time of action, a partner in crime to pull us kicking and screaming through it.
