Habit development and conscious choice of patterns is a form of energy generation.
Essentially, as we discover tendencies, habits, or patterns that are not serving us (dissipating energy), we realise that the fastest way to improve the situation is simply to stop.
Yet a habit carries momentum, sometimes a few decades worth!
“Blocking” is the removal of the conduit for the previous pattern, or the abrupt engagement in something new. A hobby, a job, an accountability group, where you literally don’t have the means to engage in the previous pattern.
On our unplugged movement and meditation retreats, the most obvious blocks is around technology. Devices are obviously of use in the day to day lives, but not on the retreats.
When there is a subconscious looping or addiction in play, we “block” through creating real time engagement and activities that interrupt the pattern.
Attention shifts to a different task, activity and reality.
With “Blocking,” because the attention shift is intense, it’s often a lot easier to let go of the previous loop.
The first part is identifying which pattern needs to be blocked – It can be a ruthless process.
