Persuasion

If you’d like to persuade me to do something and I’m not already on board, three things are needed:

  1. A point of view.

  2. An ability to articulate or express a point of view.

  3. Empathy. The ability to not just listen, but to hear and see what I am not just saying, but feeling. What is driving my story such that you can understand the tension or fear that I’m facing as I toe the line of change.

All of these are available to each of us, should we decide to develop them through practice.

These three are present when we sell a product or an idea to someone else, and are equally important when we are making the decision to level up ourselves.

In this case, when we can understand our own narrative or story perhaps just a little bit, we can see why creating change can be so difficult.
