A wake is the trail behind the boat as it sails along.
When the wake is heavily “disturbed” – with big waves behind it, it means the boat is heavy, or is displacing a lot of water for some other reason.
When the wake is “clean,” there is a very minimal trail. There is little disturbance, it is as if the boat is gliding through the water almost unnoticed.
Of course, it is often faster as well.
To maintain a “clean wake” in our daily lives is to look at our impact. When we stand up to leave, what have we left?
Is it positive? Or is it a mess?
Is there physical junk lying around?
Have we left an emotional mess and kept matters open and unfinished?
While the clean wake concept can be a practice, it cannot be a habit, as it requires conscious observation and thought.
In this was, the clean wake concept is directly linked to attention.
