Utility & Workability

When we drill to the core of a movement, conversation or even behaviour, we often find an interesting question around utility and workability.

What is this actually for? Is it actually as workable as I think it is?

There is some utility in being able to run a marathon in sub 3 hours. However, there is a cost as well – depending on the person, the workability in the context of everyday life becomes questionable.

We can bring this question to a lot of areas – movement, social media, email, marketing, design…

It’s a slippery slope when we lose the anchor of utility and workability (micro and macro) – here we see crazy diets, pollution, oddly intense exercise regimes, distraction, addiction, looping and more.

Of course the utility may be that the task is just plain enjoyable.

Either way, pausing to drill into the utility and workability of whatever we are about to engage in can go a long way. This process can be bolstered by bringing in peers from other, unrelated areas.

What can we see in this together? What am I doing this for?
