Freedivers often use some specific “training” tables to train their breath holding abilities.
These are set breath hold times with specific rest intervals that increase CO2 tolerance among other things.
On the other side of the coin, free diving and spearfishing themselves both will increase breath hold abilities.
There is value in the incidental gains that we see in a broader practice, outside of specific training.
When we look at strength, movement and coordination training, we see a similar thing. Yes there are the gyms – where we can specifically work on this stuff with a keen eye over us,
And,
We have the ability to expand this whole conversation. Where else can we integrate movement work? Where else can we practice our coordination?
When we break down the walls and take ourselves out into the real world through incidental practice, we get to play in the real environment, we can build a resilience in our practice through new terrains, new situations and with different people that we couldn’t otherwise achieve.
