Tension?

When we present someone with a new idea, there is a point where we are asking them to jump over a canyon, or a gap.

To change the way they are doing something, or to change a belief. A leap.

This could be a sale, or an idea, or even inviting someone into a new experience.

Tension is needed for change – it is decreased through assurance, comforting, familiarity and talking in general, it is increased through inquiry, contrast and silence.

We see tension all the time, in film, in novels, in design and in conversation. It brings impact, it brings effect.

And when we use tension consciously, we are pausing, we are embracing that discomfort that can come through this potential shift in beliefs or behaviours.

Through tension, we can grow.

We can go places.
