Why Show Up?

At school, we used to show up because we were marked for attendance.

If we didn’t show up enough, physically, we wouldn’t “pass.”

For most people, at the gym or at a run group, they show up because they want the benefits of the exercise, and to belong to the group. There is a bias towards a personal reward and personal feeling that we get from clocking in.

There’s a third type though – showing up because you* have decided your contribution is important.

The question is, how would this posture change change our experience of school?

How would this posture change our experience of the class or our work place?

*yes, “you,” not the boss.
