When a bird forages near the nest, it’s “exploiting” the environment for resources.
When it travels out and about, it is “exploring” the environment for resources.
Each day, we too make choices, whether to exploit, or to explore: our job, our way of working or relating, our thought patterns..
We can either squeeze our current patterns and situations for all that they’re worth, limiting risk and of course, getting a known result.
Or, we can leave the nest and explore the new.
To “explore” feels risky: it takes more energy, more time, more care and more attention…
Really though, it’s our key opportunity for creativity and growth.
(PS, it turns out the birds are more inclined to “exploit” when they are in a stressed state.)
