Energy Generation as a Metric

In the framework I often refer to, Energy Generation falls into two areas really: physiological and macro/output.

On the physiological side, we are literally looking at the body’s ability to produce energy (ATP) at a cellular level. This involves the breath (CO2 production, oxygen delivery to the tissue, vasodilation), light, a fuel source (the right foods, including carbohydrate/sugars), thyroid and other factors.

I typically refer to three pillars here: breath, nourishment and perception.

Here, when we teach the body to produce energy efficiently, we see a higher metabolic rate, a warmer body temperature, improvements in wellbeing, mood, recovery and more.*

On the “output” or macro side, this is how well we generate energy in our projects – raising the necessity of our work – or dialling up the “vitality” of what we “do.” Here, we see habitual factors such as necessity, impeccability and urgency.

To generate energy in this context is to see our own patterns clearly, and then decide to take action to tweak them – basically so we can get more done, overcome resistance and distraction, and have more fun in the process!

When we look at the “summation” of Energy Generation, we literally have physiological + output really equating to “life force” + “impact.”

When you are navigating the world of exercise, gyms, stimulants, depressants, diets and more, by simply prioritising energy generation, things become a lot easier.

Trends in training, food and lifestyle come and go, yet when we come back to physiology and simply getting stuff done, we find the freedom to largely ignore a lot of the noise and focus on the task at hand.
