We like to think that we have some level of control over possible outcomes.
That our efforts towards “growth” in one direction will be rewarded by a positive result.
When we do see alignment, we feel as though we are conscious creators of the highest level. Masters of our own universe!
Really though, there are far more unknown outcomes on any given expedition that there are known.
What will the weather be like? Who will we meet? How will it feel? What will happen? Will they like it? Will they like me?
Realistically, we mostly have no idea.
Despite our best efforts, we really don’t know when something will even “work,” or not.
The problem with having to “know,” is that it will inevitably stop you in your tracks. Within moments, days, weeks… (it doesn’t matter, it’s coming…), something unexpected is going to cross that path, and the “known” will mostly go out the window.
When (“if”) we can accept this, it allows more of a “right effort” approach. We can show up, not once, not twice, but repeatedly. Learning, pivoting, reflecting, changing.
Then, through navigating these unexpected results, we can adopt a flexible path. A compass, rather than a map. We find some resilience.
Perhaps we can carve out a path after all.
