Recently I cut pretty much all my hair off.
Short hair was the life-long norm for me, but every ten years or so I’ve let it go long.
Anyway, I went to the place down the road – they give you an amazing “hair wash experience” before the cut.
Some places don’t do that.
It’s not that they can’t, but they simply don’t – they have boundaries around what they do and don’t do.
We all have boundaries – they exist everywhere – conscious and subconscious.
The things we do, the things we don’t do – maybe we outsource them to someone else, or maybe they just aren’t part of our life.
Interestingly, we often talk about creating boundaries to help align ourselves with our values and level up in other areas of life. One example might be boundaries around “work,” in order to maintain healthy relationships.
On the other hand though, we can also relax boundaries. This can require a shift in narrative, but can also help us level up: Perhaps we have certain unspoken boundaries around how much time we spend cooking a meal…
Well, what does it look like to spend all afternoon?
What would the impact be for you and your dinner guests?
Assessing what it is that we do, what it is that we don’t do, and why, can be a powerful exercise.
By both creating and relaxing, we can see some changes pretty quickly.
