“If one is to succeed in anything, the success must come gently, with a great deal of effort but with no stress or obsession.”
― Carlos Castaneda, Tales of Power
In endurance sports, the races are by definition, long.
Interestingly, it’s actually not about speed. At any one point in time, you’re really going pretty slow in the scheme of things. Even if you win the thing.
It becomes a practice of preparation, energy management, awareness and sticking to the plan, while remaining flexible.
A practice of long game intent.
When this is executed well, you’ll “race” well.
The long game asks us to check ourselves – to step outside of our own building and look back in and to remain alert.
Yes it asks us to bring effort…
But to be gentle.
And in particular, to be gentle with ourselves.
