Mise en place

When you start your thing – your work, writing, training, meaningful conversation, how do you do it?

Do you have a setup? Is there a relationship with the space or object?

Mise en place is a French phrase from the culinary world – “everything in its place,” and refers to the setup, or arrangement of ingredients, components and equipment.

But far more than this, mise en place is a state of mind.

It is a preparedness.

Part effectiveness and of course almost definitely part placebo, yet powerful nonetheless. If you haven’t created your own setup yet, maybe it’s an area worth exploring?
