There’s something in between you and that thing you want to create or the goal you want to reach.
What’s the barrier or obstacle?
What’s the constraint?
Almost always, a way forward exists*, we simply choose not to explore it fully, or not to take action.
Can-if statements can help clear the way.
“I can do this if:”
- I access the knowledge of…
- I mix together…
- I use other people to…
- I think of it as…
- I fund it by…
- I introduce a…
- I remove… to allow me to…
- I substitute… for…
- I do more of…
When you sit with others and start to get these things out there on paper, it can open the door to powerful step forwards.
The question quickly becomes – now that I’ve highlighted the path, do I still really want this? Will I take action now?
*If people have walked on the moon, I think it’s safe to say a lot of our goals are very achievable.
