Great Barrier Island is off-the-grid. It gets cold too.
So one of the best things about going home in Winter is the fire. From June or so each year, the rectangular wood stove is burning most of the time.
It’s more than the warmth too – it’s an attractor of sorts – we congregate around it. Sit in front of it. Stoke it. Look at it. Feel it.
Yes it’s incinerating wood like no tomorrow, but it’s also a place to come back to. It’s like a hub. And it’s a driver for connection.
A lot of the time when we are looking to create something, we search for external motivators, assurances, quotes, or someone to copy.
These can help point the way of course. But they are kind of like catalysts – and the bigger question is, have we really stoked that internal fire right up?
Have we identified our vision, our purpose, or our why?
It can take time, it might change, it might feel strange at first… But once the fire is going inside, it’s a lot easier to figure out your next steps if you get stuck.
