Unexpected comes in different flavours.
The flight was delayed, the payment was late, the restaurant was closed when we got there…
Challenges that pop up along the path.
Then there’s another type – the surprisingly friendly assistant at the post shop, the ridiculously efficient-yet-fun guy running the check-out counter at the supermarket and the courtesy message to check how your training is going from the local gym.
This second one is a spark – a nice surprise or a smile in a place where we might not typically expect it.
In each case, and on each side, we have a choice.
We have a choice in how we respond when the first type of “unexpected” crosses our path, and we have a choice as to whether we actively create or design the second.
