I’ve run 200-250 zoom calls in the last 12 months, and the numbers will be close again this year.
And one thing I’ve learned, is that there’s one huge commonality with a real world meeting.
The common thread is this: We can tell if you’re not in the room.
If you sit across the table from me, you can tell as soon as I check out. If I go to my phone, my email, the person beside me… You pick it up instantly.
It’s fairly clear that we don’t tend to enjoy that kind of thing.
Now, while a zoom call feels as though it’s more distant, or more removed, this same thing holds true, and yet, many people seem to think it’s somehow entirely different.
As humans, we can sense when someone is fully showing up physically and emotionally.
We can do this when we are next to each other, and we can do this on a call.
Being present is a gift to everyone in the room, whether it’s offline, or behind a screen.
