In January, 2020, at “the turn of the decade,” there was a certainty that this was the new beginning.
The year to kick off all decades.
In March, 2020, as we move into somewhat of a global lock-down, there is certainty for a lot of people that everything is off.
That whatever plans we had, whatever it is that we were going to create, is off.
It’s pretty easy to see that whatever certainty we have around global macro external events, or even local macro events, is all up in the air.
There’s nothing really certain about any of it. A couple of short months – bam! Change 180 degrees.
In fact, externally, while we generally can fit current events into a continuous narrative, it’s actually fairly chaotic out there, most of the time.
“Chaos should be regarded as extremely good news”
– Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche.
So, if we have such uncertainty externally, perhaps the answer is to look closer.
Maybe we look internally?
Have I done my breathing to become present today?
How do I want to feel and show up today?
Who needs my support today?
What 3 tasks do I need to complete today?
While even within each of these there is uncertainty and change, at a minimum, here we find “attention tasks” that can actually be of service.
The wind swings from the north, to the south. The market extends, the market sells off. The narrative shifts. It was January, now it’s March. Soon it’ll be September.
When we bring attention back to how we want to show up and live, today, we bring attention to what is happening now, in what we are doing, and maybe find just a little certainty in how we can navigate.
