When I was studying at university, the goal was to max out on the test.
To be “positioned” as high as possible at the end of the fourth year, so that you could get into the interviews you wanted.
While of course this was a small circle – a “bubble” in the culture – it also was reflective of the era in which a lot of us grew up.
Do well on tests, get good jobs.
Now, we are seeing a strong shift to “Projects” as the modern form of the CV.
What have you created?
What have you shipped?
Have you learned to move through fear?
Have you had to project manage and stick to a deadline?
While this stuff sounds hard, and it would be a lot easier to focus just on the test that’s coming, the reality is – we need your projects.
In 2020, the connection that we seek, the interaction that we crave and the experiences that we actually want to have will not come from the test.
We are now relying on small business owners, creators and innovators to put themselves on the hook, build projects and bring them out to the world.
What’s something that you want to create?
