If someone gives me a slice of home-made cheesecake, it’s pretty special.
Of course I enjoy eating it, but beyond that, there’s a sense of gratitude, of enjoyment, and of appreciation.
You can see as they finish the second knife cut on the slice that while this is just one portion of the cake, there is in fact a limited amount.
When someone gives you their attention, it’s no different. We have a limited amount – it’s a valuable resource.
So, what do you do with it?
Do you use it to benefit yourself?
Or, do you do your best to benefit them?
What kind of effort do you put in to making sure that it’s worth while experience for them?
How might your approach change influence their behaviour the next time you have something to say?
