“Non-marketing” marketing conversations

This is a term that a lot of people really dislike.

Here’s a workaround:

  1. See something that could be improved, for someone.
  2. Make a note of who this kind of person is, what they believe in, and how you think you could help improve the situation.
  3. Have an interesting conversation with either this person, or someone who is kind of like them.
  4. When you have the conversation, listen, and then talk about your idea. Remember to tell them the story about how the idea came about.
  5. Repeat this with four more people.
  6. Reflect. If needed, adjust the idea, the types of people you speak to, or the story you share.

A lot of people dislike marketing, but most people don’t mind having a conversation.
