If we have enough energetic resources, short term, it seems like we can handle environmental hurdles.
A bump in the road is no big deal.
Long term though, if there’s a serious problem with the environment, energy, or structure of the surroundings, we tend to become chronically stressed.
When we’ve been under stress for a while, the energetic stores are low.
So, the first step is to try and restore them.
Sounds simple. But the difficulty is that most of the energy we bring into the system just goes into meeting the current demands.
It takes energy to persist.
And still, it takes energy to heal or recuperate from previous stress.
So any efforts to overcome stress need to involve minimising energetic losses (improving the environment, fuel and information), restoring energy production, and recuperating from previous energetic deficits.
We can come out of stressful situations pretty easily, it just takes a lot more energy than we often think.
