There was a time as an endurance athlete that I really put some hours into the sport.
Dozens of hours per week swimming, cycling, running, active recovery…
Turns out, this approach was important to set me up for a couple key races. But for any other desired outcome or goal in my life, it wasn’t particularly helpful.
When we think about training or exercise, it’s important to ask “what’s it for?”
If it’s for health, longevity, or wellbeing, you’re not going to have to overdo it.
You’ll be able to focus on a few key areas that give you the solution you want.
You can find what’s important.
Work and small biz is the same.
“When I sit down tomorrow, what’s it for? What’s my goal or outcome?”
If it’s to grow my business, where does my time need to be spent?
If it’s to improve the culture, what’s the important task or job I need to do?
Knowing which jobs are important is, well, important. Because if you can’t figure that out, then chances are you’ll start somewhere else. And if this slips too far, may as well just go to the beach.
