Signs of Health

“Energy is Eternal Delight” – William Blake.

In animals and organisms, we usually see exploratory behaviour alongside youthfulness and health.

It could be music, playfulness, publishing creative work, social engagement or continued learning.

On the flip side, we see lack of engagement, hibernation or reclusiveness as a sign of winter, slowing metabolic rate or poor health.

In fact, you can even tell how my dog is feeling by how she behaves, and how well she plays.

The interesting question, is does business (or any relationship) model this same pattern? When we look at businesses that thrive (even in uncertain times), we still see exploratory behaviour, creative output, social engagement and continued learning.

On the flip side, when we see lack of engagement, hibernation or reclusiveness in a small business, we often find a slowing metabolic rate of business, less output, and often, declining health.

Energy generation is important for health, and it’s equally important for business. Our practices, fuel, and people we have around us all play a role, and the first one likely plays into the later.
