Ugly sounds, beautiful music

In December 2019, Alma Deutscher had a sold-out debut at Carnegie Hall.

Previously, Alma has been known for her incredibly “light” music, which came straight from the heart.

It’s not so much of a surprise when you realise she was composing at seven years old.

Alma says that people have since told her that it’s not realistic to create such light and beautiful music. With the ugliness that’s now in the world, she should bring more darkness into her music.

She replied…

“Well, I went in the opposite direction. I took some ugly sounds from the world, and tried to turn them into something more beautiful.”

She composed a piece that began with sounds of traffic and horns…

Of course, the result was magical.

Here’s to possibility, in whatever the situation is that we have in front of us.
