When we look to create change, to do our own thing, we are moving from the centre. We aren’t following a set path.
It’s hard to know where to start.
When we do this, we are breaking the flow of everyday events – stepping out, trying something new.
It’s scary. Like heights are sometimes.
So, sometimes, a reminder of how powerful we really are can be helpful.
Here are 16 ideas to consider:
We are in a world of infinite possibility.
It has never been easier to create great work. To connect. To share a new idea, or to take your business to the next level.
At the root of this, is your personal power. Not just your health and vitality, but your impeccability.
Your habits, your integrity.
As you learn to generate energy, to become your own power source, your impact scales.
Who do you want to work with?
That idea, your business, that project you want to do.
When you learn to lean in to connection, you learn to listen. You learn to see and identify the problems and the possible solutions. How can you contribute?
From connection the doors for contribution open.
Let them show you, let them open the door for you.
Get out of your lane, over-step your boundaries.
Engage in something new.
When you are moving full speed, pause. Retreat. Cultivate inner silence and notice what you see. Look for feedback. Adjust.
And when you are not moving, start. Begin too early. Jump first, ask questions later.
About 5 years ago, we got tired of out-of-the-box ideas.
So, you won’t change the world based on your out-of-the-box education,
But you certainly can when you start to infuse your insights, your observations and your creativity.
Of course, this means flying a little higher, being open and just a bit vulnerable.
This leads us to:
Acrophobia is the fear of heights – in particularly when we aren’t that high up!
When you create, start to produce or step into the new, you are elevating yourself into the fear.
So often, we come back down – we return to what’s comfortable.
But with practice, we can discover that we adjust. That in this case, the fear was temporary.
We can adjust and soon we can look up to the next level.
In an instantaneous culture, showing up for the long game is powerful.
What would it look like if you let go of short term alerts, notifications and updates, and focused on creating a posture of long game contribution instead?
As we understand more about ourselves, our lights and our darks – as we get in the dirt and see more of our whole selves, we become a more powerful leader.
Self inquiry, deep understanding, peer to peer support and empathy work together and they all allow us to not just live a full life, but also create greater impact with our tribe.
If your story, your narrative, or the voice in your head is creating a reality that isn’t serving you.
Then let’s change it.
If you want to level up. If you truly want to create change, then listening to your narrative tells you, but choosing to do something entirely different, may be exactly what you need.
The strategy of energy generation, connection, contribution.
The strategy of positive peer pressure and embracing feedback.
The strategy of experiential learning and projects.
The strategy is important.
Far more important than the day to day tactics.
If you like, you can choose to become a creator of the future that you want.
You don’t need to observe.
The actions you start to take today? Those are just the beginning.
As we continue to apply this perturbation – this imprint and change our day to day posture and events through consistent action, we are slowly bending our reality.
We are creating a completely new experience.
What do you want to create?
Those who regularly seek feedback from their peers outperform.
With any new skill, including our work, we learn through practice. Feedback is our tool to rapidly expedite our growth during this process.
This takes work, it is labourious, demands attention, understanding and empathy.
However, the results speak for themselves. How could regular, quality feedback change the work you do?
Leadership is often talked about. In essence what we really know, is that it starts with self. With energy generation, with action and habit creation.
With cultivating intent.
You can choose to react, or, you can choose to lead.
The opportunity for leadership is highlighted by that feeling of discomfort.
Lean in.
The status quo, the way things have been, the people holding you to your past – these are all wrong.
We know only one thing and that is that change is inevitable.
The question is, do you want to be a part of it?
Learning by observation and pitching in is different to assembly line learning.
When you learn on the court. When the posture is to observe, then pitch in, you cultivate deep and wide attention.
Your posture shifts.
You contribute.
It may be too early. You might still have more to learn. We all do.
But the urgency to pitch in is the ultimate lever to level up.
The fear never goes away.
But through the support of a cohort, through the practice of showing up, through the cultivation of intentional habits…
It gets a little easier each time.
We are no longer chosen. The splintering of the big companies, and the explosion of the internet has created a free-for-all.
There is no longer anyone around to choose you.
The teachers are gone, the parents aren’t there.
The good news though?
You now get to choose.
It’s up to you – do you want to level up?
